Building Our New Home at SMU

Since 1944 Canterbury House has brought a uniquely Episcopalian/Anglican ministry to SMU.  For nearly all of that time, the ministry had a permanent home on campus on Daniel Street, just across from the law school.  This ministry is a vital part of the spiritual life on the SMU campus.  In 2003 though, the ministry's building burned down - a complete loss.

Since then the ministry has taken up residence at the house at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church at Lover's Lane and Central Expressway.  Although it's only a mile a way, being off campus has had a negative effect on the ministry's ability to serve the needs of the more than 500 Episcopal/Anglican students at SMU.

The ministry's new home, on the site of the old one, is under way!  Construction on Phase 1 of the building will commence as soon as the City of University Park issues the building permits.  This phase includes constructing the shell of the new building, the new St. Alban's Chapel, and some meeting space/offices.

Insurance proceeds and previously committed gifts will cover most of Phase 1 of the construction.  Unfortunately, completing the project will cost an additional $1 million; it can't be completed without financial assistance from believers like you.  Gifts of all sizes are welcome, and opportunities abound for recognizing significant gifts.

If you would like information about contributing to the growth of this ministry, either by contributing to the construction program or the ministry's operating budget, please email us at info@Canterbury-SMU.org or chaplain@Canterbury-SMU.org and someone will assist you.

God bless you all.
